What are the federation's plans regarding powerlifting competitions?

Effective from 1st January 2023, the federation has come up with standards which athletes will need to hit in order to compete at the annual Nationals.

Below are the standards (Last Updated 10/07/2023):

Hence, the federation plans on 4 local meets throughout the year which will act as ‘Qualifiers’, and one large ‘Nationals’.

Qualifiers —> Nationals —> International

Will these competitions cater to all ages?

Our aim is to cater to lifters of all ages and all experience levels. We will be making sure the competitions held offer discounts, for student athletes and athletes in the Masters’ class.

Sub-Juniors = 13 - 18 years of age
Juniors = 19 - 23 years of age
Seniors = 24 - 40 years of age
Masters I = 40 - 49 years of age
Masters II = 50 - 59 years of age
Masters III = 60 - 69 years of age
Masters IV = 70 years of age and over

What clothing should I wear when I compete?

It is essential that you wear the appropriate clothing for Powerlifting, this applies at all levels. You will be expected to wear equipment in accordance with IPF Technical Rules and only equipment that is listed on the IPF Approved List.

Where can I find the rules?

PFBD operates under the IPF (International Powerlifting Federation) rules.  Lifters are expected to lift in accordance with IPF Technical Rules and to wear IPF Approved attire.

It is strongly advised that all lifters, particularly novices, read these documents carefully before competing.

Can I wear clothing with my Club’s logo on?

Yes, absolutely. Clubs and gyms are the cornerstone of the Powerlifting community.

In competitions you are permitted to wear your name and the name of your club, or personal sponsor, on your lifting apparel.
