I never thought I would get into powerlifting and Mateen never doubted for a second that I could get into the sport and fall in love with it. When I first started, he had more confidence in me than I did in myself which was the most reassuring part of it all. He catered my whole program to suit me (inclusive of my varying moods towards training, all down to what I ate to affect my moods and even sleep). I started with no experience and he took his time with me as with all his other athletes to get down to the core of it all from many many sessions of refining technique to eventually building me up to reaching heights of personal bests I never thought I could achieve. He never treated me as just another person he made a program for. It feels as though he pours his whole soul into making me the best that I can be, which is more than what any athlete can ask for from their coach. Working with Mateen has definitely opened my eyes to what a coach can and should do for their athletes and never once did I regret having him help me throughout my whole process which is why If you’ve ever even thought of trying powerlifting, Mateen would be your best bet to get into the sport, falling in love with it and being able to excel. The future is so bright for powerlifting in Brunei knowing people like Mateen are at the forefront of it all, paving the way for the rest of us.

I’ve always wanted to be strong. I started through calisthenics, bodybuilding, and this year I began to delve into the realm of powerlifting. The one person that made me who I am today, is none other than Mateen. Just being under Strength Unit(SU), I’ve learnt so much and made so many new friends. I’m gonna say he’s your best shot at maximizing your strength potential. The way he goes about coaching me is well thought out, working around fatigue and missed sessions(if any). Communicating with him is as if I was talking to a close friend with immense knowledge about powerlifting. The advice & critique he gives never misses a mark. In just 7 months, I was able to hit a total eligible for USAPL Raw Nats, and I owe it all to him. I’m really looking forward to what the future will bring us. Give him a shot. It’ll be 100% worthwhile.

I’ve been working with Lifteen for slightly more than a year now & I find that he’s a great coach who is very flexible in his coaching methodology and caters to each individual’s needs. In addition, he not only has a good programming approach but analyses athletes’ technique and how to improve them. As an athlete who is injury prone, I have not encountered any serious injuries that will put me out of the gym for weeks while under Lifteen’s tutelage. He is a great motivator and always prioritises his athletes, knowing when to push you especially during competitions and knows when to pull back to keep you grounded. Most importantly, he has the keys for you to put more weight on the bar.
