The Fitness Festival 2021 was born out of the idea of providing a platform for different sports and fitness programs in the country to showcase their passion and talent. The 2-day weekend festival grew out of drive to make the sports and fitness industry accessible to be enjoyed by the public. The event was spearheaded by a group of athletes and coaches in the fitness industry, namely powerlifters Rofini Zainal and Willy Lau Wee Ming, Olympic swimmer Muhammad Isa Ahmad, and weightlifters and fitness coaches Liyana Sidek and Nashrul Abu Bakar.
The event was a 2-day long weekend on the 3rd and 4th of July 2021 as part of a collaboration with Peak Performance Sdn Bhd. The sights of the festival were filled with food and sports that was made possible by all the vendors who participated and sponsors who contributed.
The festival was fueled with bursting caffeine by Two Sons Coffee and Dil Coffee Trail. Sweet bakes and treats were available for all the sweet tooths by Byrdhouse, Butter n Eggs, Cake Project and Saffron Café. When the weather got too hot, visitors stood in the refreshing line for drinks and ice cream by Moistjito and Happy Cream. Booths that fueled everyone with filling meals were swamped with orders, and tjis was seen with The Morning Dudes, Saffa’s Taste and London Kebab. Visitors and athletes could drop off their well-worn shoes for a quick refresh at the Shoe Mo booth while they go on with their day at the festival.
Inside the main hall, The Amateur Weightlifting Meet (TAWM) snatched the crowd’s attention on the 3rd of July (Saturday), while the Amateur Powerlifting Open (APO) had the audience roaring on the 4th of July (Sunday). Outside on the field, the Brunei Flying Disc Association carried out a friendly tournament on the 3rd of July (Saturday), while Brunei Rugby had their friendly tournament on the 4th of July (Sunday). As the public walked around the premises, they could participate or watch different sports like the bootcamp sessions run by 673 Fitness and the Try Dive sessions by Poni Divers at the pool area. Empat blasted off their skating sessions, while Gloves On carried out their padwork sessions by the pool. The activities by Loco Academy were not missed over at the basketball court where the public enjoyed multiple activities with their inline skates. Families and children were also welcomed by Omni Sports with their Ready Steady Go session for kids ranging from football, basketball, rugby, hockey, golf, tennis and football.
The festival saw families, children and athletes walk in and out of the doors that weekend. The competing athletes inside the main hall were fueled by the Healthy Habit and had their bodies maintained by Traphy. The Shogun Media team can be seen running in and out doing photo and video coverage for the event. Kaleidoscope Studio came in as a major support for the entire event. Suzuki Brunei joined in with a booth and challenges for the public to participate in and win prizes, along with being a sponsor of the event.
More sponsors came in to provide prizes for the winners of The Amateur Weightlifting Meet (TAWM) and the Amateur Powerlifting Open (APO), namely JC Muscle Building (JCMB), Tuffa Tapes, Repathlete, Gizmofit, Alam Water and Brunei Darussalam Weightlifting Association (BDNWA).
As the weekend came to a close, the organizers are filled with hope that the Fitness Festival 2021 is just the beginning. The closing remarks on Sunday remains a promise that the reason behind the success of the festival will be the fuel for more in the near future.
